New Year: New goals & New achievements

Dear blog friends, I hope this post finds you well! I am terribly sorry for writing this post 2 weeks after when supposed to be posted because of personal matters. So, let me send you my warmest wishes for a happier  year in which you will accomplish a lot. HAPPY NEW YEAR! To everyone reading me now, how was 2016 in few words? Have you set your new goals? If not yet, stay to discover what helped me set mine.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein

As another year winds down, I feel it is crucial to meditate and review my failures and my achievements. Being a young fashion entrepreneur, making the first steps in the business world were by far easy. I went through a period of disappointments and frustration that distracted me from progressing. (I will tell you more about that in the coming posts 😉 )

Highlighting some of my 2016 achievements boosts my motivation!

You can check me out here!

So, I decided to stay positive and to draw my 2017 resolutions. I thought these thoughts can boost your energy  to kick off a new year, as they did to me.

#1  If you are feeling underestimated and uncomfortable in your job, plan to leave it because you deserve a self-rewarding one. If you look well, I am sure you will find a better one 😉 I wish you GOOD LUCK with that!

#2 If in the last year you were trapped in an unhealthy relationship that brought you more pain and trouble, 2017 needs a different start !Sometimes, we need to dare to say “ENOUGH”. May be it is time to think more about yourself and about what you REALLY need.

#3 If you (like me) want to travel in 2017,  but you are a bit frustrated about having enough savings, just don’t be! I believe we can make it if we do our best to achieve that 😉

#4 Have you sent your wish list or your to buy list? It is always fun and motivating to set tangible goals.Don’t forget to take a pen and a sheet of paper to make an action plan to buy them without ruining your

#5 Last but not least, consider changing some bad habits to take care more about your life-style! I suppose we all have some habits that can be altered by better one; it could be smoking, not enough workouts, not eating fruits and veggies etc. Figure out one and think why you need to change that bad habit and how .

#6 If you wanted to do an extra activity , but in 2016 kept saying “I have no time for that!”, please remember there is NEVER A GOOD time. We just keep procrastinating and finding excuses for being lazy. I CAN PERFECTLY RELATE to that 😉

Before I finish, I really feel setting my new year resolutions is highly motivating. It gives meaning to my daily struggles. After reading me, take few minutes to ask yourself: WHAT I WANT TO CHANGE IN 2017? Dive inside yourself to come out with answers, make a realist action plan and stick to it. At the start, it looks hard but it you believe in yourself you will reach that!

Still lacking some motivation? My next post will hopefully inspire you to get the right dose of enthusiasm.THANK YOU for stopping by 😉

In the shoes of a Tunisian Designer…

We all like to travel and to discover new places. We love to feel how places blow up our minds and leave unforgettable impressions on us. Travelling just broadens our way of thinking, expands our imagination and triggers new sensations.

Dear blog readers, I apologize for being absent for a while. I decided to come back with THE FIRST article on my inspirations. We all like to travel and to discover new places. We love to feel how places blow up our minds and leave unforgettable impressions on us.

Travelling just broadens our way of thinking, expands our imagination and triggers new sensations. This is what every designer/ artist would ultimately need before kicking off any new artistic project.

Today, without leaving your cosy cushion, I want to take you with me to an inspirational spot in my country, where I would go to fetch new sensations. It is about five hours away from the capital Tunis. Already I know that not many of you have heard of my country Tunisia. Today comes the opportunity ;).

One of my favourite locations in Tunisia, is a small town in the north-western part of Tunisia: Tabarka. It is a town which most of its inhabitants live on Tourism; whether they work in hotels, or they sell hand-made jewellery out of coral or they would sell wooden things. The most interesting spot is called in french: “les aiguilles”. What I like about it, is the wild nature: that sharp encounter between the rocky sea, the green mountain and the blue sky. For me that view is what one needs when in search for inner peace.

Enough talking, I will let the pictures speak up my sensations.

People there lead a simple life style, as their incomes would vary remarkably from season to another depending on tourism. The city obviously lacks entertainment centre/ spots or youth centres.  It is one of regions that attracts visitors thanks to its virgin forests, pure air and calm atmosphere.

To be honest, there aren’t many available activities that could be scheduled there. You can either go on a boat cruise, enjoy a walk and buy local souvenirs or go hiking. There is a jazz festival organized each year there. For sure, you will get up to a beautiful  scenery from you hotel room. Though, you will  get bored after spending three days there, sometimes we need to take refuge from the busy streets and the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

If you want to be there, I just advise you with this hotel: La Cigale. It simply won’t deceive you, the best one in the region. There are cheaper ones also.

Talking fashion now, I decided to wear one of my favourites designs: My asymmetrical tweed coat. Sewn two years ago, I  still have the pleasure to wear it on special occasions. I feel the sharp cuts and the layered collar just fit well with that wild natural setting. I used two materials: brown tweed and suede to mark  the top’s cut. When designing that coat, I was inspired by haute couture cuts.

You can also check out the video I made out of these photos here:

Personally, I found in that small town some serenity and I was able to go back to my hectic lifestyle with a fresh breath. I really think that travelling becomes a vital need to come up with new ideas and positive energy because arts seem to be more experimental comparing to other forms of knowledge. You just needn’t to spend a fortune to travel, I am sure that there are undiscovered spots in every one’s country that are worth a visit.

I would be pleased to hear your comments and to learn about some of the little inspirational  locations you visited recently.

Fashionably yours <3.

” I don’t design clothes, I design dreams.” Ralph Lauren

Dear followers, first let me thank you for your feedback on my blog. I took some time to check out your blogs and I am really amazed by the richness and uniqueness of every blog. Here is a new article that does not directly address fashion, but refers to an important chapter of my life: How I decided to start following my dream of becoming a fashion designer. It is written with so much affection and gratitude. Enjoy !

“Have you ever wondered about all the choices we make in our life thanks to someone? Can you think of one choice you made under the influence of meeting someone in a particular time and place? Well, for me I can remember one very well.

Since my childhood, I used to feel an innate love for fabric and a passion for imagining dresses for every occasion.  I used to play with my mum’s scarves, with bath towels, and even with bed sheets. My enthusiasm has undergone several stages: from dress up games and following the runway trends, to sketching and more. Before that day,  I felt I  had no prospects in the fashion industry due to a lack of money to study in a renown school of design. Watching haute couture runways was for sure exciting, but terribly frustrating.  I knew nothing about sewing techniques, so I always ended up feeling hopeless, almost depressed. I thought I should rather dream about a more realistic job or path to follow.

Six years ago, I met someone, who at first annoyed me a lot with his self-confidence and smartness. Never have I experienced before, such ambivalent feelings of attraction, hate, defiance and curiosity, all at once. I really wanted to convince myself that he was nothing more than an arrogant designer and a talented pianist.  I kept repeating that to myself day and night only to hamper him from invading my life, my mind and mostly my heart. I kept saying so, until I started working with him as a stylist for real customers.

These are some of the sketches I made during that job. I never had a course on that. I learned on my own.

How was the job? Well, It was just like a fairy tale.  I was given the chance to sketch for 25 customers, to hear their stories and live their dreams. Because every woman is unique, we designed custom made dresses for every dream. Obviously,   we faced several challenges of all kinds, yet we proudly made it. Ralph Lauren says: “ I don’t design clothes, I design dreams”. He is definitely right. The spell starts with every woman’s dream and it is up to your creativity and perseverance to make it come to light.

Not only did meeting that designer initiate me into fashion design, but also made me believe that I was meant to be a designer and I ultimately should fight for that dream. Reaching a certain level of confidence is not something easily attainable. It is only later that I realized that you would not make a single person believe in you, unless you do so in the first place.

In short, the results are (un)fortunately the following: working with him triggered my senses and drew my attention to my unleashed potential in design. So, I ended up loving fashion design a bit more, but loving him much more. My journey in fashion design officially started afterwards.”

This story may not be of much importance to you as it is for me. However what I really want to tell you:

“You should believe in yourself to make others believe in you”.

While beginnings are bloody hard, faith, hope and work make the struggle exciting. No matter who you are and what you want to achieve, I truly hope this post would give you some positive vibes to carry on believing in yourselves.

Thank you for stopping by 😉

Lots of love and encouragement

Yosra, fashionably yours  ❤
